Billing Representative
Summary

Role
The Billing Representative is responsible for collecting payments, resolving claim discrepancies and coding errors, verifying eligibility and following up on eligibility issues, and maintaining communication with patients and third-party carriers until accounts are paid. The Representative will also perform functions such as answering patient and staff phone inquiries and helping patients with questions or problems regarding their accounts.
Work Schedule
- 40 hours per week
- A hybrid (in-office/remote) work schedule will be considered after six months in the role with demonstrated mastery of basic job duties and excellent work productivity.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Check eligibility prior to services being rendered.
- Resolve eligibility issues, including but not limited to demographic errors, coordination of benefits, PCP assignment and newborn enrollment.
- Follow up on unpaid claims within standard billing cycle timeframe
- Check each insurance payment for accuracy and compliance
- Work with patients to determine insurance eligibility, develop self-pay arrangements and set up payment plans.
- Contact patients who have outstanding, past-due (30 days) guarantor balances to collect payment.
- Assess overdue accounts for transmission to collections.
- Process and follow up on payer denials.
- Post payments in a timely manner, as assigned.
- Ability to effectively communicate with patients; Assists with questions or problems regarding patient accounts.
- Participates in department meetings and daily huddles and adheres to HIPAA guidelines in maintaining patient confidentiality and Code of Conduct Policy.
Experience and Qualifications
- Must be a team player and be able to work independently with daily responsibilities.
- Highly motivated to learn new skills
- High school diploma/GED
- Experience with medical billing and coding, preferred.
- Excellent customer service skills to include proficiency in resolving patient/parent complaints
- Ability to read an Explanation of Benefits (EOB).
- Ability to pay attention to detail and multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficient in computer systems and navigation with MS Office software. Experience working within eClinicalWorks preferred.

Compensation
The hourly rate for this position is $21.00 - $23.00 an hour. Hourly rate is dependent on years of professional experience, licenses, certifications, and similar experience to current employees in the position.
